becoming front page“Becoming…” is a five piece textile and sculpture exhibition. It tells the story of 10 children from the age of 2 to 13 years old.The children appear as white, life size figures and the clothes they wear tell their tale. They are a fantastic group of kids. I’ve met them again and again in my work as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, but I’ve come to realize that their story is a lot more powerful if you see it.

As a psychiatrist I sometimes struggle to explain the complexity of how I understand families’ and children’s difficulties. That is when I grab a pen and big piece of paper and start to scrawl wildly – pictures, arrows, circles around words, faces… Child psychiatry is compelling. In this exhibition I want to show how compelling it is. It involves stuff about life and what makes us tick…and why we feel like we do. I want you to see how understanding ourselves better can help us have more self determination. How, understanding our difficult and impulsive behaviour, enables us to love more gently, in more harmony and not to piss people off. Next…
